Mammography

We have full mammography capabilities. Our Machine is a state of the art dedicated mammography x-ray unit, that is both FDA and State of Iowa inspected. We are an accredited mammography site. Our experienced staff includes three board certified mammographers.
A mammogram is a low dose x-ray of the breast. It can detect many breast changes that are too small or too deep to feel. Today’s mammograms are considered safe, quick and relatively painless.

Risk factors:

• family history of breast cancer, either yourself or blood relatives.
• Being over the age of 50.
• Being on hormone replacement therapy.
• Never being pregnant or first pregnancy occurring after the age of 30.
• Obesity and certain dietary habits.

Consider the facts:

• More than 80% of breast lumps are proven benign, but all lumps should be examined by a doctor.
• More than 70% of breast cancers occur in women with no identifiable risk factors.
• A 5 Year survival rate after treatment for early stage breast cancer is 90-95%.

20-40 years of age: A physician breast examination every three years and an initial mammogram between the ages of 35-40.

40-50 years of age: Periodic mammography every year or two as determined by your personal history and your doctor’s recommendation. Also, an annual physician breast examination.
